Description
The fall season is my favorite season of the year, I’m in love with the variety of colours, the cool snap of a blue sky morning or the colour saturated autumn evenings. I have had the privilege of being in very close proximity to wild elk while out hiking and hunting. Once I actually had a bull elk walk right up to within 10 ft. of me while I was sitting still, leaning against the base of a tree on a mountainside in the Manning Park/Princeton forest range. In that moment, I just stared for as long as I could……It was beautiful, and the image and feelings and smells, I can recall in an instant. It wasn’t long before he noticed me and bolted, but our eyes locked and was enough time to sear the experience in my memory. Elk are incredibly beautiful when they are congregated together in the wild. The bull elk seem always to be on high alert. The breeze carries a bounty of senses the elk are inherently aware of, like a highway of information vital to their survival. In the “Whispering Winds”, the messages in the morning fog rolling in through the elk herd puts the bulls on high alert, acute to what dangers may be present. The purposes was to capture that feeling.
